X-Ray
X-rays are especially useful in the detection of pathology of the skeletal system, but are also useful for detecting some disease processes in soft tissue. Some notable examples are the very common chest X-ray, which can be used to identify lung diseases such as pneumonia, lung cancer or pulmonary edema, and the abdominal X-ray, which can detect intestinal obstruction, free air and free fluid. X-rays may also be used to detect pathology such as gallstones or kidney stones. X-rays are relatively safe and the radiation exposure is low.
Our X-Ray department is staffed with an experienced Technician every hour of the week that the practice is open. This has proved to be a very convenient service for our patients, eliminating the need to leave the building to get an X-Ray. Most X-Ray results are read and the results reviewed within 24 hours of the X-Ray.
We at Colonial Family Practice are excited to announce the upcoming conversion of our X-Ray equipment to be able to capture the images on computer. The images taken during your visit will be available for reading a lot faster than the current film process. Please check back this page for updates on the conversion progress.
